Day 27 – Santiago De Compostela to Negreira – 03-Jun-2018
On the road again, just can’t wait to get on the road again – for the uninitiated these are the lyrics to the famous Willie Nelson song. Well, that was us this morning. We opted to avail ourselves of the inclusive breakfast at our hostel, but it was only on offer at 07:30.
After the lay day, yesterday and lots of lazing about and socialising, we got back on the trail at around 08:15 for our 21km trek to the small town of Negreira. The track today was excellent, with lots of bush and forest, and quite a number of goodly hills. This area of Galicia is renowned for its hilly lush country and today’s journey was a fine example.
The weather however was something else. It had rained overnight and it was certainly threatening to do so most of the way. Fortunately it held off until we were about six or seven kms out, but even then it was only light stuff. By the time we got to Negreira, some serious rain started to fall – we just made it without getting too wet.
We had a very tasty but inexpensive lunch at the restaurant attached to our albergue (El Carmen). It was so huge and we were so full that we could not face any sort of dinner when it was time.
The afternoon was pretty ordinary weather wise, so we stayed indoors most of the time. Jose and I had been here previously and remembered that there is not a great deal to see here. An amazing thing also happened here, we were given the same beds that we slept on in 2015.
We caught up with one of our Camino friends for a drink, had some nibbles and pretty much called it a night.
Tomorrow is another big day – 34kms to Olvieroa so an early night is in order tonight.
